In this article, you will come to know about various departments that are working in any manufacturing or mechanical industry. you will also come to know why there is requirement of various departments in any organization ? What are the role & responsibilities of these departments in mechanical industry.

First of all before starting this, we need to know about "Product Manufacturing Cycle". How any product is manufactured. Almost all organizations, follows the same following Activities :-

  1.  Very first step is to receive client order for any part and product.

  2.  Second step is to to review specifications of product that client required.

  3.  Third Step is to design that part or product as per client's requirement or specifications.

  4.   Fourth Step is  procure raw material / brought out items to manufacture that part or product.

  5.   Next step is do inspection for all incoming raw material / bought out items so that faulty material can not be accepted.

  6.   After Inspection of all Inspected OK material, it need to keep at safe place.

  7.   Ok material from designated location issue for manufacturing of part or product.

  8.   Next step is to manufacture the product as per specifications.

  9.   After assembly or manufacturing, it is time to final inspect part or product whether it is acceptable or not.

  10.   Acceptable material then packed and dispatch to client and payment is received. 

  1.  Client order    :   Marketing department is responsible for client dealing

  2. Product Specification & Design     :   Design of part/product as per specification is "Design department responsibility"

  3.  Raw material & BOI         :   To arrange material for production, Purchase Department is responsible

  4.  Inward Inspection        :   To check the quality of incoming material received from supplier, Quality Department is  Responsible

  5.  Store          :   Store Department is responsible to keep all accepted material in store.   

     

  6.  Production / Assembly    :   To manufacture part/product as per specification, Production Department is responsible for that

  7.  Final testing / PDI      :   Quality department is responsible to check Final inspection of Product to deliver to client.

  8.  Payment Receive     :   After Delivering material to client, Sales department is responsibility to receive payment from  client

All the activities mentioned above to complete Product manufacture cycle, it is very difficult to look after all these activities by a single person. There must be an issue of Quality, Performance and Delivery of product if all these activities are being looked after by single person only. So to sustain Quality, Performance, Delivery of product, requirement of different departments who look after each activities individually so that Quality, Performance and Delivery can be sustain. So we require different departments for different activities of "Product manufacture Cycle"     

Responsibility of Various Departments w.r.t Product manufacturing cycle :

To manufacture any Part or Product of any item, we need all departments which can perform their particular activities effectively so that Quality, Performance and Ontime Delivery can be achieved. So, any manufacturing industry must have following major core departments for smooth working of it :  List of All Departments

1) Marketing

2) Design     

3) Planning     

4) Purchase-Outsource               

5) Store-inventory             

6) Production       

7) Maintenance     

8) Quality Control & Assurance             

9) Dispatch                     

10) Sales
